Discover the functionality of our terminals TILT3D - detecting tilts relative to the plane
All currently produced terminals are equipped with an accelerometer (commonly referred to as a 3D sensor), which is used to detect events related to shocks, motion, and tilting. Data from the accelerometer enables effective identification of "suspicious movements" in the vehicle where the terminal is installed. This functionality can be utilized in vehicles of all kinds - personal, delivery, commercial trucks, construction machinery, and even in bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles.
In the further part of the newsletter, we will focus on the issue of proper installation of the terminal with an accelerometer and detecting tilts based on accelerometer data using the TILT3D terminal feature.
How to mount the terminal to ensure reliable accelerometer data, and how to perform the calibration?
The most crucial aspect when installing a terminal with an accelerometer is the necessity of securely attaching it to the structure of the vehicle in which it is intended to operate. It is unacceptable for the terminal to be able to move freely during travel. Such an installation would result in imprecise accelerometer data and false alerts.
After properly mounting the terminal, it is necessary to calibrate the accelerometer using the SET3D command. In the case of the TILT3D function, there is no need for driving during which the terminal recognizes the directions of movement. The TILT3D function only requires specifying the axis perpendicular to the ground surface, which occurs within a few seconds after sending the calibration command.
Example of using the TILT3D function in practice
TILT3D will find application in various types of vehicles, as mentioned at the beginning. However, the initial purpose of the discussed functionality was to detect excessive tilting of construction machinery.
The described function allows specifying the permissible tilt value, exceeding which immediately triggers a data frame informing about the fulfillment of the condition, i.e., the machine tilting beyond the set angle.
There is also the option to specify the number of data frames to be collected at one-second intervals immediately after a violation is detected. This is an extremely useful parameter that allows for detailed tracking of the tilting of the machinery within a specified time range.
Monitoring the position of the machinery is extremely important because its excessive tilt or overturning can lead to serious damage to components such as the engine or other parts of the powertrain. Failure to respond appropriately to overturning can result in significant repair costs. The real-time detection of such events allows for the activation of alarm mechanisms and documentation for proper loss settlement. This solution is ideal for equipment rental companies and businesses that, due to the significant dispersion of equipment, do not have sufficient control resources.
Detailed information regarding the configuration of the TILT3D function is available in the technical documentation, the link to which is provided below.
